Solar Power

Filling both health care and safety needs, solar lighting runs very high on the empowerment scale in a country where 90% of the population cannot access electricity.
Well beyond the huge cost savings as a result of not needing to purchase paraffin to burn as a light source, the use of a solar light also provides tremendous health and safety benefits, including cleaner, smoke free air inside the hut or home, which translates into less irritation and pollution in eyes and lungs, coupled with a dramatically reduced chance of accidental fire inside dwellings.
Purchased locally in Uganda, the solar lights we have chosen for this project produce a brighter white light than the dim yellow of paraffin, and provide enough illumination to read a book, do homework, play a game, cook, light a room, compound, trail, or pathway for hours each evening after being charged each day.
